Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

 

1. Scope and submission types
ESS Conference Series: Social Science and Humanities accepts manuscripts aligned with the Series’ Aims & Scope and the theme of the relevant conference issue. The primary submission type is a full research paper. Other content types (e.g., editorial foreword, conference information) may be published where applicable.


2. Language
The primary language of publication is English. If a specific issue allows additional languages, authors must still provide English metadata (title, abstract, keywords).


3. Manuscript preparation
Authors should submit a manuscript that includes:
•    Title
•    Author name(s), affiliation(s), country, and email
•    ORCID iD (strongly recommended for all authors)
•    Abstract (recommended length: 150–250 words)
•    Keywords (4–6)
•    Main text (structured appropriately for the discipline)
•    Funding statement (if applicable)
•    Conflicts of Interest statement (required)
•    References (required)
The Series recommends clear, academic writing and consistent terminology. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of quotations, references, and citations.


4. Referencing style
The Series uses APA style (7th edition) for in-text citations and references, unless the issue guidelines explicitly state otherwise.


5. Ethics and originality
By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that:
•    the work is original and not under consideration elsewhere;
•    all sources are properly cited;
•    any use of third-party material is lawful and permissions are secured;
•    authorship accurately reflects contributions.
The Series may use similarity checks to support editorial assessment.


6. Peer review
Research papers undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers, unless otherwise specified for a particular issue (e.g., invited contributions). Editorial decisions include: accept / minor revisions / major revisions / reject.


7. Conflicts of Interest 
All authors must disclose potential conflicts. If none exist, include:
“The author(s) declare(s) no conflicts of interest.”

8. Funding (recommended)
If applicable, authors should name the funding body and grant number. If none:
“This research received no external funding.”

9. Open access, copyright, and licensing
All articles are published in open access under CC BY 4.0.
Authors retain copyright and grant ESS Press the right to publish the work as the version of record.

10. DOI and metadata
Where DOI registration is implemented, each article will receive a DOI. Authors must ensure accurate metadata (names, affiliations, title, abstract, keywords, references) at submission.

Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
