Author Guidelines

ESS Conference Series: Social Science and Humanities publishes full papers presented at international academic events in the social sciences and humanities. Every submission is screened by an editor and, where it fits the aims and scope of the issue, sent for double-blind peer review.

Download the template, write your article over the worked example inside it, and submit that single file: Manuscript Template (DOCX).
The metadata you enter in the submission form — names, affiliations, title, abstract, keywords — must match the file.

Technical requirements

  • Language — English only, including title, abstract and keywords.
  • Length — 5,000–7,000 words, including references.
  • Structure — IMRAD: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, then Conclusions. Where the discipline does not admit IMRAD, use clearly numbered sections that keep the argument traceable.
  • Page setup — A4; margins 2.5 cm; PT Serif 11 pt; line spacing 1.15; justified; first-line indent 0.5 cm.
  • The article contains — title; authors with affiliation, city, country, e-mail and ORCID iD; abstract of 150–250 words; 4–6 keywords; main text; the six declarations; references.
  • Declarations — Author Contributions (CRediT), Funding, Conflicts of Interest, Ethics Statement, Data Availability, Use of Artificial Intelligence. Placed at the end of the article, before the references.
  • References — APA 7th edition; at least 15 sources; alphabetical order; hanging indent; every DOI as a full link. Sources must be verifiable and current — the editors check them.
  • Tables and figures — numbered, titled and referred to in the text. Each figure is also uploaded as a separate file, 300 dpi or higher, legible in black and white, with an alt-text.

Ethics and originality
By submitting, authors confirm that the work is original and not under consideration elsewhere, that all sources are cited, that permissions for any third-party material are secured, and that authorship reflects actual contributions. The Series uses similarity checks to support editorial assessment.

Peer review
Full papers are reviewed double-blind by at least two independent reviewers; the editorial office removes author identification before a manuscript is sent out. Editorial decisions are: accept, minor revisions, major revisions, reject.

Open access and copyright
All articles are published in immediate open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Authors retain copyright and grant ESS Press the right to publish the version of record. Each article receives a DOI.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

The Series may collect and process personal data provided by users, including:

  • user account data necessary to manage submissions and peer review.

  • manage submissions, peer review, editorial decisions, and publication workflows;
  • communicate with authors, reviewers, and editors about manuscripts and issue production;
  • maintain the integrity and transparency of the scholarly record (e.g., authorship and affiliations).

3. Data sharing

Data may be shared only with parties involved in the editorial and publishing process (e.g., editors, reviewers) when necessary for processing a submission. The Series does not sell personal data.

4. Data retention

Personal data is retained for as long as necessary to support editorial processes and maintain publication records, in line with legitimate publishing and archiving requirements.

5. Security

Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
